- - - - - - - - - - - - apollo was, and is, the god of many things. The god of light, the sun, truth, prophecy, medicine, healing, plague, music, poetry, and the arts. So it was no surprise that his children could go on to become many different things, mostly artists and writers and such. Some were teachers, teaching art and music and archery and such things in schools. Then the brightest of his demigod children would, of course, go on to become doctors, and of all of the mortals here on Earth, the goddess Danica figured there was no one she trusted more than a son of Apollo to see her through her pregnancy. She had irritated too many of the major gods for Hera or Apollo themselves to be of much help through the process, and she was far too proud to ask any of them, but it was fine finding Dr. Aidan Summers to help her. A demigod would be better equipped to dealing with a goddess and her unborn immortal child better than any regular mortal.
of course, knowing Apollo, Danna wasn’t sure what his damned son was going to be like. If she heard one more haiku she might scream, and in her second trimester of pregnancy, she had grown well accustomed to the mood swings and anger seemed to be where her emotions swung most days. Of course, she didn’t imagine she’d win much favor with anyone if she gutted Apollo’s doctor demigod son in the middle of a hospital. That was why she figured it was a good thing she had brought Jesse along…She could always beat him up a good bit. Jesse could take more damage than a silly demigod could. From her seat on the hospital bed, her emerald eyes glanced around the room uncertainly. It was all bright and cheery in here, soft music playing in the background. Many paintings were hung on the walls, paintings of suns and instruments and babies and pregnant women. There was a small stack of poetry books sitting by the sink that she glared at. Not a good sign.
danna pursed her lips as she finished her examination of the room and turned her eyes to Jesse. “Let’s hope he doesn’t annoy me. I’d hate to have to strangle you,” she muttered, in a far less pleasant mood than she had been in the car. Of course, in the car there had been good music, not this stupid Indie crap that was playing. Not to mention that pregnancy had made her more bipolar than usual. Just being in this room irritated her. Many things irritated her. Being pregnant irritated her. Being fat irritated her, she thought, glaring down at her round stomach. She wasn’t exactly a blimp yet, but you could definitely tell she was pregnant by now. The light irritated her, the paintings and music and idea of poetry irritated her. The stupid poster describing the phases of pregnancy and the poster that showed the phases the baby went through annoyed her. All of the cheerfulness that supposedly went with the idea of childbirth and pregnancy annoyed her.
the door opening to a tall, tan man with a bright, white smile annoyed her, too. He greeted them both warmly and introduced himself as Aidan Summers, as if she hadn’t figured that one out already. Danna did not want to hear him yap, she just wanted to see how the stupid baby was doing and find out its stupid gender and go to Sonic after it was all said and done. Dr. Summers cleared his throat and took upon a more serious expression under the glower of the goddess. “All I wanna know is how much longer I’m going to be stuck like this, if there’s any chance of getting it out early, and…Well I just want to get this over with,” she grumbled, laying back on the bed and folding her arms over her chest, waiting for him to get started with the stupid sonogram.

- - - - - - - - - -If someone had told Jesse on the day he had first met Danna that he would be sitting with her in an OB/GYN examination room, waiting to get the first glimpse of their child, he would have either laughed his ass off or killed the messenger. And yet, here he was, sitting in a chair next to the hospital bed with his elbows resting on his knees, staring at his hands where they were folded loosely in front of him. Doctors' offices were torture, plain and simple. A much more subtle form of torture than the stuff Danna had introduced him to and that they enjoyed on a regular basis, but torture nonetheless.
Basically, doctors were the people that got paid to deal with the results of Jesse's talents, and he hated them. Especially when they succeeded, which was happening more and more often nowadays. He was thankful at least that they took forever and a day and did stupid shit like give out twenty different prescriptions to one person. Made his job easier, but he wasn't about to return the favor. Sitting in the waiting room, he had dragged his eyes over the other patients, one by one, all people that he had made sick unless they were here because of pregnancy. And he had taken the opportunity to worsen their symptoms, just a bit, until they were all just as miserable as he was, if not more so. It had taken years for them to finally call Danna's name, and now it was taking eons for the doctor to arrive.
Being with Danna should have lightened Jesse's mood, if she wasn't in such a rotten one herself. She didn't like being here anymore than he did, and add the mood swings to it... well, he figured it was safer to just leave her alone. He had a sneaking suspicion that he had been brought along as little more than a punching bag, even if it had been his idea to go with her. If he had gone to these things with Alessia, he was certainly going to go with Danna. Even if she wasn't happy about being pregnant and Jesse himself viewed the whole thing in only a slightly better light, he did want to go with her. Not only would it save her having to tell him all about it later, but they were in this together, and Jesse wanted Danna to know that no matter how awful it was, he would always be there.
Right now, though, he wished he was anywhere else. Danna was already irritated enough without mood swings to add onto it, and he knew she was serious about strangling him if the doctor annoyed her too much. He made a mental note to give her plenty of space as a man finally came into the room with a white coat to match his bright smile. He was greeted with a glare from Danna, the same glare that she had been shooting inanimate objects in the room for the past fifteen minutes. Jesse pursed his lips and offered a smile that didn't reach his dark eyes by far. Danna grumbled to him that she just wanted to get this overwith, and Jesse glanced at her a bit sympathetically as she crossed her arms over her chest and laid back on the bed. His eyes trailed to her slightly-rounded stomach, that she hated and he found just as gorgeous as ever. Jesse was beyond happy that he could never get pregnant, but at the same time, he wished he could know what Danna was going through. She was the one that had to carry the child, and no matter what he did to make it all as easy as possible on her (and Jesse did everything he could) nothing would ever change that fact. He sighed and scooted his chair closer to the bed, taking Danna's hand and soothingly rubbing his thumb over the back of it. Maybe it would help, or maybe she'd try to throw his hand across the room and hiss at him not to touch her, but either way she'd probably feel a bit better.

- - - - - - - - - - - - “o-Of course, L-Lady Danica,” Dr. Summers said with a small bow, looking taken aback, but willing to proceed. At least that bright white smile was gone, though Danna couldn’t help but glare harder, causing the man to pause and just stare in confusion. Danna rolled her eyes and shook her head, “Danna. I prefer Danna,” she said through gritted teeth and Dr. Aidan Summers mumbled out some apology before clearing his throat and setting down his clipboard and walking over to Danna who sat up long enough to shrug out of her jacket and toss it at Jesse’s head before laying back down. She folded her arms just under her boobs, giving Summers plenty of space to roll up her top and warn her about the coldness before putting on the jelly. Danna rolled her eyes at him and shook her head, body tensing in a struggle not to shoot up and punch one of them. What, he didn’t think she knew that? Did everyone need a warning for something cold? Were they going to sue if they weren’t warned. It was like that bullshit with McDonalds being sued for someone’s coffee being too hot. Ridiculous. Mortals were ridiculous.
clearing his throat again, sensing her less than pleased reaction, Summers busied himself turning the computer screen towards them before taking the transducer and sliding it over her cold, jellied stomach. Danna just glared up at the ceiling, ignoring the sounds being emitted from the computer, not looking at the screen at the gray blotches of her unborn child or anything. Dr. Summers could tell her if the kid was doing okay and what it was or whatever. Then they could leave, hopefully without having ultrasound pictures thrown at their heads on the way out. What did she care about having pictures of it when it was in her stomach? Why would she want pictures period? Mortals were so strangely sentimental. Danna took a deep breath and sighed as Dr. Summers commented on how everything looked fine and ignoring his silence as he stared at the screen in mild confusion. A slow, happy grin took over his handsome features, but Danna noticed none of it. She only noted with mild irritation how long this was taking and deciding what she would order at Sonic after all of this.
“congratulations! It’s a boy…And a girl!” Dr. Summers said, pleased.
danna shot up. “I’M HAVING A HERMAPHRODITE?!” she demanded, voice loud and panicked and surprised. How in hell was one supposed to care for a hermaphrodite? It’d be kind of cool to sell the thing to the circus, but still. What sort of bullshit was that. Luckily, Aidan Summers intervened before she could start cursing Hera.
“no! Oh…No, no, no,” Dr. Summers laughed uncertainly, clearing his throat. All pleasure was gone from his face as he glanced at the screen. “No, I mean…It’s twins. Boy and girl twins,” he said, pointing to the screen at the various blotches that somehow kind of looked like it might be a baby.
danna stared at the screen, frozen, as Dr. Summers pointed out the boy and his penis and the girl and her lack thereof. All of the color drained from her face as her wide, emerald eyes stared in shock at the computer. Oh this was worse than a hermaphrodite. At least a hermaphrodite would just be one fucking baby. Twins meant two! As in two children she was going to have to take care of. A little boy and a little girl. Her head swam and she slowly laid back down on the bed, sucking in deep breaths as Dr. Summers frowned in concern and stared at the screen. “They’re…Okay. Developing fine,” he noted uncertainly, glancing warily from Danna to Jesse. He cleared his throat again and typed in a few things before turning back to them. “You’re due about August 16th, I believe. And uh…You can come back for another three weeks,” he said, coughing and wiping the jelly off of Danna’s stomach and pulling her shirt back down for her, eying her uncertainly before taking the little pictures from the computer and handing them to Jesse.
meanwhile, Danna rubbed her hands over her face and shook her head. This was not happening. Sitting up again she glared at the doctor. “Twins?” she demanded, picking up Dr. Summers’s clipboard and hurling it at Jesse’s head. “DO YOU SEE WHAT YOU’VE DONE TO ME, YOU ASSHOLE?!” she screamed at him, growling and quickly looking around for something else within reach to throw at him.

- - - - - - - - - -Jesse couldn't decide to wince or smirk when Dr. Summers referred to Danna as "Danica." Strike one. Danna took off her jacket and threw it at Jesse's head, and he leaned calmly to the side and managed to avoid most of the flying garment, except her sleeve whacking his ear. He was used to having things thrown at him by now. It sort of came with dating Danna, especially if you knocked her up. On the plus side, his reflexes were much better now than they had been at first. He glanced up at the ceiling as Dr. Summers warned Danna that the gel would be cold, causing her body to tense in irritation. That was strike two. Jesse would have felt a bit sorry for the man if he wasn't some scumbag doctor.
Dr. Summers turned the computer screen towards them, and that was mildly interesting, as he began to rub the sensor over Danna's stomach. It took a moment of looking at muscle tissue before some blobs that only resembled a baby if you knew what you were looking for appeared. Danna was ignoring the screen, but Jesse's brow furrowed and he leaned forward, coming to realization the same time that Dr. Summers did. While a smile spread over the doctor's face, Jesse's eyes widened. He sat back in disbelief, dropping Danna's hand.
Oh, no.
Dr. Summers tried to explain to Danna that it was both a boy and a girl, and Danna immediately concluded that she was having a hermaphrodite. She was wrong. She was having twins... They were having twins. Jesse stared in shock at the screen as Dr. Summers straightened Danna out. Stupid man should have just said yes, it was a hermaphrodite. That was better than twins. He pointed out the revealing anatomy of the children, explaining how they were doing, trailing off at the end as he looked first at Danna, and then Jesse.
Danna was a time bomb. And she was ticking down fast. Jesse knew this, Dr. Summers did not. Jesse met his eyes, his own holding a fearsome warning, though not for what he himself would do, but for what Danna would do. If the man had had any brains at all, ie. if he hadn't been a doctor, that look would have made him hightail it out of that room and out of the whole OB/GYN wing. But he wasn't fast enough. Telling them that they were having twins was strike three.
Danna exploded.
Jesse barely had time to duck the flying clipboard she threw at his head. Of course she would blame him and his sperm. It was better than blaming the doctor and having a lawsuit filed against them, though Jesse certainly did not agree. If that clipboard had been any sharper he would have had a new haircut as it whizzed just millimeters above his head. Danna was snarling and looking for something else to throw, while Dr. Summers was backing uncertainly towards the door.
"Just go," Jesse growled at him, cursing Hera under his breath as the man left the room. He couldn't get out fast enough. Lucky bastard.
"Danna, Danna I'm sorry. Come on, let's just go to Sonic, we'll figure this out. Twins usually mean you don't have to be pregnant for so long anyway, a lot of them can be taken out premature..." he trailed off, knowing that blaming himself would just be the easiest way to go about this right now. Even if fraternal twins required not only two sperm, but two eggs.

- - - - - - - - - - - - most people would probably be ecstatic at the idea of twins and even happier at the idea of boy-girl twins, one of each, the perfect duo. Then again, most people actually liked babies and children. A lot of people actually wanted them. There were pros to go along with the cons. Twins meant one more soldier for her army, one more minion to train and gain the loyalty of. But it was almost one more child to listen to and care for. Plus she’d get bigger. Maybe Jesse had a point, she wouldn’t be pregnant as long, but for her the cons were outweighing the pros right now. Growling, Danna grabbed the keyboard of the computer, ripping it away causing the wires to pull and the computer to topple over, but the wires broke free and Danna threw it at Jesse, as well. With that she slid off of the bed and snatched up her jacket, putting it on.
luckily the time she straightened her jacket, she was feeling more slightly annoyed than the fury she had originally felt once the shock wore off. Danna sighed heavily and kicked the clipboard and the keyboard grumpily and eyed Jesse. “You have to take care of them,” she grumbled, looking around for her purse. “Ugh! Why? Just…Ugh!” she growled, kicking the leg of one of the chairs. “This is punishment! As if being exiled to Earth wasn’t bad enough!” she snapped, glaring up towards Olympus. Hera, goddess of marriage and childbirth and all things family and relationships. Of course she would do this to her. Hera couldn’t have thought too nicely for her for attempting to abort her first two children and for disobeying orders earlier in her pregnancy. Of course this would happen, but that didn’t mean she was going to stop accusing Jesse.
he was the only person here to take the blame.
“you owe me, you realize this?” she told him, sighing and placing her hand on her hips. “I have to carry around two of your kids and push two of them out of my vagina,” she said, running her fingers through her hair. “You can start repaying me by getting me a Sonic burger and new shoes,” she informed him, waiting by the door expectantly.

- - - - - - - - - -Jesse wasn't sure if Danna heard him, because all she did for a few moments was throw a keyboard at him and snatch her jacket up and put it on. The keyboard clipped him on the thigh, and he was sure he'd have a bruise, but whatever. He'd seen worse. After having knives thrown at you twice, keyboards weren't really all that much to worry about. What he was most worried about was the fact that Danna was upset enough to be throwing stuff all over an examination room. She had every right; twins weren't going to be any fun, especially through pregnancy and childbirth. Jesse hated Hera almost as much as he hated Hades right about now. Twins.
Danna demanded that he had to take care of them, and Jesse sighed. The last few weeks of Danna's pregnancy were going to pretty much be spent with just him taking care of her. And the first few weeks after the twins were born would be spent with him taking care of all three of them. Jesse sighed and rubbed his hands over his face, then through his dark hair. It was going to be hell, and he'd probably be living off of ramen noodles and about four hours of sleep per night. Beautiful. What was so great about having children?
Danna was stomping towards the door, still blaming him for the whole thing, and planning out the rest of their day. Sonic, then shoe shopping. Jesse. HATED. Shoes. Women had to have about three hundred pairs just to be considered female, he swore. It was all about shoes. And spending the day in the shoe store, even with Danna, didn't sound like the most awesome of ideas. He was sure she'd still be in a rotten mood. Jesse hoped he could at least talk her into a pair of something besides heels. He couldn't imagine carrying two babies around on a pair of strappy stilts would be all that pleasant.
Danna was waiting by the door, and Jesse sighed and went to open it for her, glancing down at the crack beneath as a shadow approached and stopped. Judging by the silence in the room, whoever it was apparently thought it was safe to slip a few black and white pictures of a few blurry blobs under the door before hurrying away. Jesse grit his teeth and glared at his children, nestled so comfortably in Danna's womb, oblivious to everything.
This is all YOUR fault.
Jesse opened the door for Danna so that they could leave, making sure to step on the pictures on his way out.
