MYEYES: Melpomene has vivid blue eyes that are striking for not only their color, but the deep emotions that they express. Melpomene’s eyes often convey sorrow and despair. Many times they are glistening with unshed tears. Either way, a look into Melpomene’s eyes can drop your heart to your stomach, or lower.
MYFACE: Melpomene has a tragically beautiful face, very feminine and expressive. You can read her usually dismal feelings like a book across her face. She looks at times like an actress of the 30’s or 40’s, that’s just the type of beauty that she possesses. Her lips are full and usually a bright, classic red. She hardly ever smiles.
MYBODY: Melpomene has a slender figure, with voluptuous breasts but rather lacking hips. Her stomach is flat and her legs are somewhat short, as Melpomene is definitely on the short side for a goddess. Her skin is a pale, alabaster white.
SPECIAL: She has a slight dusting of freckles over her cheeks and the bridge of her nose.========================================
ILOVE: Dark colors, solitude, sad endings, rain, her family
IHATE: Cheerfulness, brightness, superficiality

She wishes she was more like her sisters, especially her polar opposite, Thalia.
SCAREDOF: Being depressed forever, being disliked because she is the Muse of Tragedy, falling in love again
WANTTO: Find some way to be happy, be more like her sisters
STRENGTHS: Eager to please, kind, compassionate
WEAKNESSES: Pessimistic, depressed, masochistic, too trusting
TALENTS: Twisting happy endings into sad ones, making tragedy something beautiful that can be appreciated, instead of shunned by most of the world
ABOUTME: Melpomene’s only job is to inspire tragedy – and she’s good at it. She encourages people to see that happy people and endings aren’t the only option, and that sad or twisted endings can be beautiful as well. She’s usually the wallflower in the room, until she is approached. She isn’t evil like many people would think; she is actually a very sweet and compassionate person. She doesn’t want to be sad all the time, but it’s difficult for her to really cheer up.========================================

GOODMEMORY: Inspiring the tragedies of Shakespeare and of other great playwrights was a good memory for Melpomene. She loved watching the tragic stories unfold, and move the audience to tears from both the emotion and the beauty of the tale.
BADMEMORY: Discovering that Vladimir was dead. She felt as if a part of her had died with him, and she threw herself into inspiring as many writers, artists, and musicians as she could, wanting the world to know of her heartbreak.
HISTORY: When Zeus and Mnemosyne got together, the Nine Muses were the result. They were very much loved by their parents, and each Muse developed a strong personality that was very different from the rest. They were so strong, in fact, that they began to inspire the arts of the mortals. For Melpomene, it wasn’t difficult to discover which direction she would take. She loved the darker, more melancholy things in life. She felt that the happy and cheery and bright was not all that the real world was composed of, and she believed that there was a very different beauty in the dark, the sad, and the twisted. Even when she was young she was a bit of a loner, but that all changed when she met Vladimir.
Vladimir was a son of Ares and a mortal woman. He was one of the first demigods to be born, and he and Melpomene met at a very young age. They fell in love and planned to spend the rest of their lives together. For years Melpomene seemed almost unlike herself. She was much happier than she usually was, and while she was still drawn to the dark and the sad, she didn’t inspire much tragedy in the mortal world. She was too caught up in being happy with Vladimir – as happy as the Muse of Tragedy could be, anyway.
When Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades banded together to lead the gods in a war against the Titans, of course Vladimir was right there on the frontlines. Melpomene was worried and accidentally imagined him being killed by a Titan, thinking of how horrid life would be without him. Her worst fears came true, and Vladimir was slain in battle. Melpomene felt as though she herself had died, and refused to leave his mangled body for days. Eventually her sisters were able to convince her to come away, but she was never so happy again.
Melpomene’s company consisted mainly of her immediate family after that. They all tried to comfort her, but she would not be comforted. She proclaimed her misfortune to the world by inspiring poems, songs, plays, and paintings that conveyed her devastation. She kept more to herself than she did before. It was through this unfortunate event that Melpomene knew what it truly meant to be the Muse of Tragedy, and she would be forever destined for nothing less.
As much as Melpomene tried to guard her heart, deep down she did long for happiness and the company of others. She was terribly attracted to the goddess Aphrodite, and as the two of them grew closer, Melpomene found herself entirely under Aphrodite’s spell. It was her specialty, after all, but she was good enough at it for Melpomene to think that she was different somehow, special. The affair between the two of them went on for years before Aphrodite moved on. Despite herself, Melpomene had fallen in love again, and loved the recurring pain as much as she hated it.
Again, her family was there for her. Melpomene loved each and every one of them, but they could not mend her heart. She was foolish enough to give it away again to a mortal man in the time of the ancient Greeks, a man named Delpheus. She wanted so much to be with him, but was wary of only having her heart broken once more. She was torn between giving herself completely to him and hoping for the best, or keeping a safe distance and guarding her heart. Delpheus was only a mortal, though, and didn’t have as much time to be alive as immortal Melpomene did. By the time she finally decided to love him just as completely as she had Vladimir, Delpheus had fallen in love with a mortal woman. Melpomene’s heart was broken yet again.
Melpomene refused to fall in love again after that. She stuck to inspiring the tragedies in the lives of others, hoping and usually failing to get them to see the beauty in the pain. She fared better in that end through sad stories, poems, songs, and other art. She inspired the works of the greatest artists to ever live, and for that, at least, she is happy.
