The story of the lycanthropes starts with one man: Lycaon, the moral king of Arcadia and son of Pelasgus and Meliboea. He had the king of the gods, Zeus, over as a guest and tried to test his power and his immortality by serving him human flesh for dinner and having servants attempt to kill him in his sleep. Zeus became angry because of this and turned him into a wolf man and killed all fifty of his sons with lightning bolts.
Over the years, Lycaon gathered minions called lycanthropes. He can spread his curse by biting mortals in his wolf form. They can shift at will and are immune to the usual monster killers -- imperial gold, celestial bronze, and Stygian iron. Only silver can kill a werewolf, so long as it hits a mortal point. Fire can harm them, injure them greatly, but the only way to kill a lycanthrope is with silver. Their human forms are as weak as any mortal, only their wolf forms giving way to the true power of a lycanthrope.
They are also immortal. Most of the minions of Lycaon have lost their souls in the process of becoming a monster just like him, and thus when they are killed they go to Tartarus and are eventauly reborn. There is a small group whose minds and hearts retain their morals and other "mortal" values that allow them to keep their souls and they are immortal so long as they are not killed, but once they die their souls are sent to the Underworld.
The first known case of "monsters with a soul" are found in people like Garvin Grey. It all began in his generation, people not lustful for power and who retained some of their human qualities even when taking the curse of Lycaon. The majority of these mortal-like lycanthropes were separated from Lycaon in a battle against the Hunters of Artemis and a new lycan pack was formed under the leadership of Garvin Grey. The Grey pack moves around the country while Lycaon and his minions normally remain nearby The First Legion, feeding on the weak demigods Lupa throws to them. Sometimes they travel, but lately they've been out and about more and more lately. There are many demigods for eating lately...
I think it would be neat to have minions of Lycaon and eventaully have Lycaon and his pack up against Garvin and his pack. Give them something to do lol.
