The ball had been as close to perfect as she could have ever asked for, a fairytale to be sure. But like all good things it had to come to an end. Of course the entire night hadn't run as smoothly as she would have liked. Eden had gotten to see her sister as well as to meet some of her friends. That had been fun of course until they had all gotten drunk. She didn't like to be a stick in the mud but she had never been a fan of drinking. She had gotten a lot better verses when she was still a child but it still wasn't fully okay with her.
Honestly she had just been lucky Aj had been so understanding. That fact alone was why she found herself feeling so guilty now. He had asked her about why it made her so uncomfortable and she had managed to brush the question off as nothing. That dory probably didn't want to make a fool of herself in from of her...things along the lines of that but never the truth. Now she was the type of person who hated to lie...and this was no exception, no matter how nervous she felt about sharing the truth with anyone.
She couldn't keep the truth forever from him though, something she was more than aware of. Deep down she did want to tell him, of course there was also a fear..of what he'd think of her. It was weird...but it wasn't something that she could just change about herself. In her cabin, sitting upon the edge of her bed, her blue eyes looking down at the floor and yet she saw nothing. Her mind of course only focused upon her thoughts. She licked her lips, smoothing out her skirt a bit, she was nervous simply thinking about all of it.
With a quite sigh she finally got to her feet, if she kept sitting there eventually she'd find some way to talk herself out of it. As friendly as Eden is making friends wasn't something all that hard for her. Aj though was probably one of if not her very best friend. Since the ball she had been avoiding him, though she hoped that fact wasn't too obvious. She had simply made herself extremely busy and the only time she had seen him, it had been with a large group of people around them.
Sighing once more, she finally left her cabin. It was finally starting to get warmer, something that on any other day would have pleased her. At the moment though she had far too much on her mind to focus on things such as the weather. She pursed her lips, her blue eyes quickly scanning the camp. She personally didn't know where he was but....well she at least had an idea. The Armory was his favorite place to be and it was wear she was headed now. Her flats made a soft thud sound against the pavement as she easily walked forward. It didn't take long at all, only a few moments until she reached her destination. Tucking a blond strand of hair from out of her face she hesitantly stepped into the Armory. "Aj..?"

It had been several weeks since the Ball, and never once had he stopped thinking on it. When he was forging, it never left his mind, when he went to the beach, he still thought about it. Mostly the same questions swirled around in his mind. Like “What did I do wrong” or “Did I say something to upset her?” Maybe it was just paranoia, but he hadn’t seen a single sign of her since the Ball. When he did see her, it was at the pavilion during meals or she was with a group of friends. It was obvious that she was trying to avoid him, which made him think more about what he did wrong. Often, he would find himself with a massive migraine from thinking on it so much at night, but even his dreams revolved around these questions… never giving him mind time to relax.
AJ had done everything in his power to make that night almost a fairytale for her. Until she saw her sister, Dory, things were going great. When he asked her why her sister’s friends’ actions bothered her? That’s when everything that night seemed to go downhill. He could tell that the alcohol bothered her, which he was completely okay with. Not everyone liked it, and even he didn’t find the stuff appealing. So… why did she withdraw from him so much? Eden was the first friend he ever made at that camp, so he cared deeply for her and her comfort. If something bothered her, he was all ears and was willing to talk to her about it. He knew that was usually a best girl-friend thing, but for some reason he rather her tell him.
“AJ! What are you doing? Stop daydreaming and get back to work!” AJ jumped at the voice of one of his brother’s calling him back from his thoughts. Silently, he gave them a nod and went back to his forging. Really, he didn’t have to be there, but it was the one place he figured it would relax him. Unfortunately, his heart and mind wasn’t in his work, which was very unlike him. That usually meant he was either sick or really bothered by something. Eden’s distance was really bothering him, and he wasn’t exactly sure why that was. Yes, he knew he like her… maybe a little more than just friendship, but it shouldn’t be enough to bother him this much, right?
With a deep breath, he returned to his work, doing his best not to let him mind wonder to much to Eden. Finally, he was able to finish with the sword he had be banging away at unconsciously, putting it into the cold water to cool it down. That’s when her heard her voice… At first he thought it was his mind playing tricks on him, but he still went to go check the entrance to the Armory. There she was… the very person him plagued his thoughts lately. Quickly rubbing his hands clean with a cloth, he exited the Armory. ”Eden…” His tone came out soft and concerned. ”How are you? Haven’t heard from ya since….” He trailed off, his eyes slightly sadden at the past thoughts of her distance.

They say when you feel bad about something the guilt will eat away at you. That the truth is the only way to be set free. This sort of guilt, the kind that she had been feeling since the ball, it was unlike anything she could have ever imagined. In all honesty, she technically hadn't done anything wrong. Not wanting to discuss her past was her right, something that she in fact didn't have to do. Though that was very true, it certainly didn't do anything to make her feel better.
That night she should have simply said that she didn't want to talk about it. Though even that would have been a lie. Because she did, very much want to talk about it, and that scared her. Things that had happened in her childhood, they were things that only Dory knew..well and her Grandma. Not her friends, though she wanted to talk to Aj. How much she cared about him scared her so much that she pushed him away. Just like she had done with Tyler...
The situation was completely different, Tyler had cancer...and so afraid of death Eden had begged her Grandmother to let them move. Her excuse had been she had almost been raped. That was true, that event did happen but it wasn't why she wanted to leave her home. As she made her way to the Armory, she thought of all her mistakes. Things she had done, and more importantly she thought of what she was going to do now. As friendly and kind as she was to everyone, there was only a handful of people she truly let it. Aj wasn't dying, but deep down there was still a fear that once she let him in something would cause her to lose him.
Though honestly she knew that she couldn't live like this forever...sooner or later she'd have to overcome her fears and today would be the start of that. There was hesitance in her step as she went inside the armory. She didn't know if he'd even be here or not. But if anywhere, this was certainly her best bet. Looking for him was why she had come here, but she still nearly jumped at the sound of his voice.
Just his words alone, and the look on his face..all the guilt that had been haunting her returned stronger than ever. She shifted her weight, tucking a loose strand of hair from out of her face. Nodding her head slowly after a moment, without being said they both knew what he meant. Since the ball they hadn't spent much time together, barely even spoken to one another. It was for the first time that she truly thought about how this must have been for him. Did he think she was doing this because of him? Had he been trying to figure out what he had done. It wasn't him, it was herself..and all about how selfish she was being.
"I wanted to talk to you...if you aren't busy" She paused for a moment taking in a quite, shaky breath... "I mean if you are, I understand" There was double meaning to her words that she spoke to him. Not only did she want to make sure that he wasn't busy, but also that he actually wanted to talk to her. She certainly wouldn't blame him if he wanted nothing to do with her. After the way she had been acting, she wouldn't blame him.
