Taylor knew what she was doing was wrong, but she just couldn't help it.
The tiny kitten in her lap meant everything to her. He was the only animal she had had since she moved from Camp Verde, Arizona, and that was difficult for Taylor. She had spent most of her life in paradise, or at least what she considered paradise to be. Her grandparents had owned a small ranch in Arizona, and Taylor had lived there with them, her mother, and her twin sister Camryn. Horses were expensive to keep, and they didn't have much money, but it was a wonderful life anyway. Taylor and Camryn had learned to ride a horse almost before they could walk, and large chunks of every day in Taylor's childhood had been spent either on a horse or in the stable with them. She just loved them, and loved animals in general.
Of course, after her grandparents had died, their mother had had to sell the ranch. They had to move to New York, so the girls could go to Half-Blood Camp, even if they didn't know who their father was. Taylor adjusted all right to city life - everything was so much closer together, the school was bigger, and there were lots more people to talk to and flirt with and make friends with. But one thing Taylor hated about the city was that there were hardly any animals... certainly no horses, like there were in the country. That was part of the reason that Taylor had decided to keep the fluffy little furball she now held affectionately in her arms.
She kissed his head, and he wiggled a bit, obviously wanting to get down and explore. Taylor giggled and set him down, watching as he toddled off on an adventure in her room. Sadly, he didn't get out much... that was where she knew that this was wrong. Their apartment didn't allow pets, and so so far no one knew about the kitten. Taylor had found him about two weeks ago, sopping wet and huddled outside her window sill. She had gasped and opened her window, and he meowed at her and let her pick him up, much to her relief. She couldn't imagine if he had fallen from so high... She didn't even know how he had gotten up there. But Taylor had wrapped him in a towel, gotten him some water and a bit of ham, and like an idiot had named him. Sprinkles, because of the way he drank... He liked to stick his paw in the water bowl and then lick the droplets from his paw, and he got water all over the place.
Taylor kept him in her closet while she was away at school, and always rushed home to make sure that he was still there. He always was, meowing happily to see her, his savior and his new mother. She wanted to let him run around, but she couldn't do that unless she was home to watch him... no one went in her room very much, thankfully, and if they did hopefully they wouldn't look in her closet. Taylor expected her mother to say something any day, but so far she hadn't... Taylor had gone to the pet store to get some necessary supplies, like food and a litter box, which she kept meticulously clean so that the smell wouldn't alert anyone to the kitten's presence. Despite all odds, it had worked out so far.
Taylor gasped in horror, though, as her door suddenly opened to reveal her twin sister, Camryn. Hurriedly she scooped up the kitten and stuffed him under her bed, the closest hiding spot she could think of. "Gods, Camryn, haven't you heard of knocking?!" she snapped, but it was too late. Sprinkles meowed and poked his little head out from under her bedskirt, waddling out to sniff at Camryn's feet, curious and completely oblivious to the danger he was in. "Ugh, shut the door..." Taylor groaned, burying her face in her hands.
Her secret was out.

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP Camryn had spent the morning like every other morning in her room wishing she was somewhere else. She had done this ever since she had been forced to move out her. Well they were all forced to move here they had no other choice after her grandparents died her mother couldn’t afford the ranch so the moved to a tiny three bedroom apartment in New York City. of all places. Her mother could have taken them to a tiny town where they could have a house and a yard as well as animals but instead it was to New York. The disgusting city. Camryn tried not to blame her mother to much but some days she just couldn’t help it. There was so much her mother could have tried to do before giving up but she didn’t she tried nothing to help the keep the ranch and Camryn wasnt sure if she could ever forgive her for that.
After her wallowing in self pitty she finally got out of bed, it was time for the next part of her daily routine. The shower. The shower always calmed Camryn down from her morning of thinking about the past. It always did something to her that made her love her life here and forget about everything else. At first she thought there could be drugs in the water and it was doing it to her, but after thinking more clearly she was able to tell that it was all because of the water pressure. Pressure on the ranch had always been good but never great. Here the pressure was like getting a massage from and actual masseuse. It took the stress that was so heavy on her shoulders and removed it away. Her own personal masseuse she loved it. Her showers usual length was half an hour todays was quicker then usual it only took her about fifteen minutes today. Camryn found that odd seeing as she still shaved, washed her hair, shampooed, conditioned and then washed her body.
From her shower she moved back to her room and began to get ready, she wondered if maybe Taylor would like to go to the mall then maybe lunch and a movie with her. That was the only really good thing about the city it offered many things to do. If they had wanted to go to the movies back home it would have taken more then an hour to get to a town and who knew if that town had a theater or not. The sudden change to her mood had Camryn bursting with excitement. She blow dried her hair quickly then straightened it. She loved her hair straight. She had been watching a lot of a show called Jersey Shore and had adapted to loving the Snooki poof so that was her hair style today. Then she went to find clothes. Finding clothes was always the hardest thing for her to do. She could never pick out what she wanted to where. Going through her closet she found a cute flower print dark purple dress. It looked like one her sister had so she figured it must be Taylors, cause she didnt remember buying it. She knew Taylor wouldnt care either way so she put it on with some black pumps then walked to her sisters room.
To excited to care Camryn burst into her sisters room ”Wanna go-” she started before being cut of by Taylor yelling at her to knock. It was once the room was silent that she finally heard the reason why her sister had been so angry when she burst into her room. OMG A KITTY she shrieked inside her head but the words never escaped her lips. She wasnt even sure what to say. Animals werent allowed in this building it could get them kicked out if anyone had found out about it. “Taylor, what are you doing with it” she asked before shutting the door and then sitting down on the floor flicking her fingers so that the cat would come to her. It was an adorable white poof and more then anything she wanted them to be able to keep it but she knew it was impossible they couldnt keep it it could ruin everything. - - - - - - - - - - status: IN/COMPLETEtagged: WHO YOU WIT?words: COUNT 'EM!outfit: POLYVORE, BBY.notes: ANYTHING ELSE?lyrics: FIREFLIES, OWL CITYcredit: TEMPLATE BY SHAZI ?! Taylor sighed into her hands, relaxing only slightly when she heard the door close. She pressed her palms together in front of her face, resisting the urge to smile fondly at Sprinkles as he trotted over to sniff her sister's fingers. He looked back at Taylor, and then she did smile sadly at him, refusing to let tears well in her eyes but unable to shake the feeling that it was all over.
"I found him," she told Camryn with a sigh, lying down on her stomach on the floor to pet the little kitten. He rubbed affectionately against Taylor's and Camryn's fingers in turn, unable to get enough of either of them. "It was a few weeks ago when it was raining... I came home from school and he was sitting there on my windowsill! I don't even know how he got up there... something must have really scared him to get him to climb so high," Taylor explained. "He was cold and wet and he just looked so pitiful... I couldn't leave him, and he could have fallen... So I brought him in and dried him off, and fed him, and the whole time he was just purring and purring, just so happy to see someone... I've been keeping him in my closet so Mom won't find out. He's got a litterbox and food and water in there, and I let him out when I'm at home... I named him Sprinkles because of the way he drinks..." she rambled, sighing and resting her chin on her forearms while she felt the kitten climb onto her back and chew playfully at her blonde hair. Even that couldn't cheer her up. Camryn couldn't keep a secret for anything, especially not from their mother... And if she found out, everything would be over.
"You can't tell Mom... Cami, please," Taylor begged, still fighting to keep moisture from collecting in her eyes. "No one else ever has to know... it's not like she inspects my room, and the landlord doesn't go through and inspect the apartment... He's such a sweetheart, he won't hurt anything or cause any trouble. We can just keep him a secret..." Taylor trailed off, realizing just how far fetched that sounded. Sprinkles was tiny now, but he would grow, and they couldn't keep him hidden away forever. For now, though, it was Taylor's only hope.

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP Camryn looked at her sister as the kitty in front of her sniffed her fingers she picked him up and began to pet the poor little thing while Taylor talked to her. When Cam had woke up she expected her biggest problem to be dragging herself out of bed. She never expected that she was going to have to decide what her sister did with this cat. But she listened trying to think of all the possibilities they would have in keeping the kitten. It had been soooo long since they had an animal and having one, even a secret one, would be utterly amazing. “You’ve had him for a few weeks” she said interrupting her sister stunned that Taylor had made it this long without telling her. Camryn listened to her sister stunned that she had found the little kitty on her window sill how the hell had the little kitty got up that high.
When her sister had finished talking about how she found the kitten Cam sighed how could she go to her mom that her sister had a kitten. She couldnt hurt Taylor like that. And besides he was so cute. “You have a litterbox?” she asked again stunned that her sister had been doing all of this without telling her. “How the hell had you got that past mom without her even knowing” Cam was frankly stunned at how sneeky her sister had been “Mmeer sprinkles” she said as the kitty trotted away from her. It was adorable. How could she tell. Especially when her sister began to tear up in front of her, she couldnt hurt her other half like that.
“Okay you have a deal Tay” she sighed smiling at her sister before crawling over to her and wrapping her arms around her “But if mom finds out on her own I knew nothing at all about it” She was happy to keep this secret for her sister, ahving an animal around would remind her of how it used to be when they lived on there ranch back home. Where they should be not here in this retched city. “I get to come play with sprinkles when ever I want though” she said to Taylor raising her eyebrows hopeing that her sister would agree to allow her come and see the kitty when ever. How could she let a kitty just be in there house without playing with it. “Now did you really find him on the window sill” she asked looking at the small puff of white fur that looked more like a cotton ball then it did a kitten “You should have named it crazy instead of Sprinkles cause that cat is insane” she said laughing happy that she had decided not to go to her mom about the kitten, maybe having the kitten around would brighten both her and Taylors lives up. . - - - - - - - - - - status: IN/COMPLETEtagged: WHO YOU WIT?words: COUNT 'EM!outfit: POLYVORE, BBY.notes: ANYTHING ELSE?lyrics: FIREFLIES, OWL CITYcredit: TEMPLATE BY SHAZI ?! Taylor cringed slightly and nodded when Camryn echoed the things she had said, shocked. She had had Sprinkles for almost three weeks now... and she had a litterbox and everything. She hadn't meant to keep it from Camryn... despite their differences, Camryn knew her better than anyone. She just wasn't the best with secrets... maybe Taylor had jumped to too many conclusions, though. That was definitely a fault of hers.
"Yeah, I've got everything... I didn't mean to keep it from you, Cam. I almost told you so many times, but it was just safer having no one know..." she sighed, shrugging her shoulders. "But yeah, I've got everything he needs, see?" she said, getting up and opening her closet door, pushing a few dresses and jeans aside to reveal a small litterbox, as well as a food and water dish hidden in the back corner. Taylor's closet extended a bit to one side of the door, so if she kept her clothes pushed back it made the perfect hiding place. "He even has a few toys... I couldn't get him anything that rattles or crinkles, but he has a few," Taylor said, tossing out a few little fluffballs about the size of ping pong balls, a catnip mouse, and a long, wiggly piece of fabric on a stick. She swished the strip of fabric before the kitten, who jumped up about twice his height trying to snatch it with his little claws. Taylor giggled, sitting back down against her bed and glancing at Camryn.
Taylor breathed a sigh of relief when Camryn assured her that she would keep the secret, curling her arm up to hug Camryn's where it wrapped around the front of her shoulders. "Deal. Thank you soooo much, Cam," she sighed, grinning at her sister's conditions. "Okay, you can come see him," she agreed. "But - rules. We can't talk about him outside my room, unless we're out of the house, and when we're in here with him we have to keep it down. He can't leave my room, and you have to knock every time before you come in, in case I have him out. I want to pick him up before you open the door so that he doesn't rush out," Taylor explained. Having a kitten all to herself was certainly fun, but being able to share him with someone was definitely more so.
Taylor grinned and giggled at Camryn's disbelief about how she found Sprinkles. She couldn't blame her; Taylor had spent a lot of time wondering how on earth he could have gotten up so high, and still hadn't come up with a reasonable explanation beyond just some sort of adrenaline rush. Cats were capable of crazy things when they were scared, so Taylor just attributed it to that.
"I think I'm the one who's insane," she sighed, raking her fingers through her wavy blonde hair. "I mean, it's ridiculous to think I can keep him a secret forever... he's gonna grow up and all, and a life in a closet is not a good one for a kitten," Taylor confided. "But I can't take him to a shelter and just leave him, either... for one, who knows who would take him, he could end up in an even worse situation... And look at him, he loves me... He knows I saved his life, and I'm his Mommy now. I can't imagine what he would be thinking if I left him in a cage... He'd probably think that he had done something wrong, and I didn't love him anymore," Taylor said sadly, wiping her eyes on her sleeve. She wasn't usually a crier, but picturing her poor, sad little baby in a cage, missing her and wondering what he'd done to deserve this just broke her heart. She picked him up and snuggled him tightly, kissing his fur and holding him close against her chest.
Taylor loved Sprinkles, but she had no idea what they were going to do with him...

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP Camryn couldnt believe that there was a kitten sitting in front of her. Sis they had moved to New York the thought of having an animal had been crushed from their minds. It took everything to not have an animal for Cam and Taylor especially after living on the ranch for that long. Cam didn’t think that either one of them had ever gotten over there lost horse Fiona. Maybe that was why Taylor had hidden this kitten, if Cam had decided to tell there mom, it would be like loosing Fiona again. She smiled at Taylor. “ I know Tay you didn’t have to though I would have kept it a secret” she watched her sister as she made her way to the closet to reveal what was inside. Taylor really did have everything for this kitten, she was so prepared for it how could Cam betray her sister like that. She smiled happily totally comfortable with the situation as Taylor began to play with the cats toys. She smiled at Sprinkles as the cat jumped up and attacked the string.
How could Camryn have ever told on her sister, what kind of sister would she have been doing that. “Your welcome Tay” she couldn’t help from smiling at her sisters sheer enjoyment of being able to keep the kitten. “Yay I get to come see him” she said as her sister began to list off her own conditions of them keeping that kitten a secret. The rules she listed off were to be expect Camryn had basically already set those rules up for herself anyway. “Yeah of course I can agree to those, I wouldn’t talk about him anywhere besides in here and out of the house, cause I know what it would mean if he was caught.” she said thinking of two of the out comes, either there mother would find the kitten and it would be taken to a shelter where who knows who would buy it. Or their land lord would find it and they would be kicked out and forced to live on the street neither of those options appealed to Camryn at all so Sprinkles would need to be kept a good secret. “And I will always knock before I come in now, no way this little guy is escaping” she said scratching behind sprinkles ear.
She frowned at her sister as she began to talk of Sprinkles life to come, it was going to be hard trying to keep there mother from knowing about Sprinkles and it would be even harder to keep him a secret as he grew up. “Awe Tay, We will figure it out we will give him or find him a good life a life where he is not stuck in a closet or a cage we will figure this out” she said carefully trying to figure out how they wouldd figure out this situation. That was when it hit her. “We both need to get jobs” she said a smiling appearing on her face “because we are moving out of moms house into a place that will let us keep Sprinkles” suddenly everything seemed perfect, a house on there own, even if they were young would be better then having to live where they couldnt keep there cat. Of course that was when another thought hit her. THey couldnt get a house or appartment noone would let two sixteen year olds sign for a house. “Okay scratch that plan we will think of something”. She knew they would.

Taylor smiled when Camryn agreed to everything she said, the rules and conditions for the kitten, as well as her thoughts on things. Perhaps the two of them didn't agree all the time, but they agreed enough of the time that Taylor now realized she could definitely trust her sister with this secret. It made her feel a bit silly, guilty, even, for keeping it from her. On the other hand, if no one knew, no one could tell, so that would have always been the safest option. But having Camryn know was definitely more fun, and if Taylor had to pick one person to tell, it would have been her twin sister.
Her smile faded, though, as the conversation turned more serious... Taylor couldn't leave Sprinkles to the mercy of whoever wanted to pay the shelter a few dollars for a kitten. He deserved so much better than abandonment in a strange place, filled with other lonely cats and dogs. But he also deserved so much better than being shut in the closet for hours on end... Taylor was stuck, and she just didn't know what to do.
Fortunately, two heads were better than one, so Taylor's watery hazel eyes lit up a bit when Camryn announced that she had an idea. If they both got jobs, they would be able to move out, to a place where they could keep Sprinkles. It seemed like a good plan at first, but Camryn realized at the same time that Taylor did that it just wouldn't work. They were fifteen years old; there was no way they would be able to move in anywhere by themselves. Besides, Taylor would have felt awful ditching their mother like that.
"No, that won't work," Taylor agreed, shaking her head and grinning fondly at her sister's ambition. She hummed softly and thought hard. The jobs weren't a bad idea. Maybe...
"But maybe you're not far off, Cami!" Taylor exclaimed. She let Sprinkles jump off of her lap, resituating herself excitedly to sit on her heels. "What if we both got jobs, and then helped Mom move all of us?" she asked. "We could come up with a reason to get out of here without telling her about Sprinkles, and then once she agrees we can tell her. She couldn't be mad at us then... This apartment is too small for us anyway. And it's not like we would have to move far, I mean we could still go to the same school and everything, just find another place that will let us keep him! We could even do some apartment shopping for her!" Taylor rambled. She was talking fast and excitedly, but she tried to keep her voice down and she hoped Camryn could keep up with everything she was saying. She was just so excited... a new place that would allow animals would be perfect.
